Semantic Distortions

Semantic Distortions is a series of four zine-style booklets about asemic writing, or abstract mark-making that resembles text but lacks semantic meaning. Each booklet is differentiated by color and folds out to reveal a different poster on the back side.
When generating my own asemic writing, I decided to scan my markings and move them on the scanner bed while doing so, yielding very colorful and distorted forms. Although a more literal interpretation of distortion, these scans informed the visual language and the content of this series. The interiors contain distorted forms whose colors have been altered for differentiation between the booklets, and the posters on the back sides are the raw, unedited scans in their vibrant glory.
